USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Commercial – Filmed with the Impala

USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Commercial

USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Commercial – Behind the Scenes

This commercial shoot provided some unique opportunities and challenges for Pacific Motion. The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is part of the Keck Medicine of USC. As such, it is a working hospital and is actively treating cancer patients with highly compromised immune systems. In order to shoot in such and environment the Pacific Motion had to completely clean and sterilize all of the equipment that would be working in the hospital. Prior to the shoot the equipment had to be inspected and approved for use.

The extreme portability and compact size of the Impala made many of these shots possible. The Impala had to be able to fit behind counters and in other tight spaces for many of the shots, while still providing adequate arm length for some high angles. It had to be easily able to moved to multiple locations throughout the shoot and had to fit through standard doors and halls.

The commercial was shot on a Red Epic and featured similar moves in several locations, which had to flow seamlessly from one to the next. The ability to quickly perform offsets in Kuper motion control software allowed the crew to move the rig, then slightly offset the camera position to match each move. Throughout the shoot the Impala performed flawlessly and contributed to an outstanding commercial.

Kia Commercial – Filmed with the Gazelle

Kia Commercial

In this commercial, the final beauty shots of the car were shot with the Gazelle in Griffith Park, California. Motion Control is not always for Visual Effects shots. Sometimes motion control is used for just moving a camera precisely and beautifully. This commercial is a great example of that. Because Kuper motion control software allows you to program moves, record encoded moves, or combine the two techniques, you can create shots that look completely organic and handheld or very precise and robotic, depending on the needs of the shoot.

The Graphlite motion control crane was used to shoot the stair shots from 0:32 to 0:42. This shot was extensively pre-vised in Maya, using our Graphlite Maya Model and the move was imported into our Kuper motion control software. The shot mixed live-action, CG elements and intricate set design to extend the circular staircase.

Yuridia “Irremediable” Music Video Shot on Pacific Motion Stage, Filmed Using the Graphlite Motion Control Crane

Mexican pop singer Yuridia is  an international sensation, with 2 Diamond albums in Mexico, 18 Platinum albums in Mexico, 2 Platinum albums in the Unites States, 23 Gold certified albums in Mexico, 3 Gold certified albums in the United States, and 2 Gold albums in Central America. She recently spent a day at Pacific Motion Control, filming the music video for the song “Irremediable”. The London Alley Entertainment production was directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada, and produced by Christian Heuer. The crew spent two days at Pacific Motion, unloading props and dressing the set on the first day, and filming on the second. With a relatively short time spent on production, the video looks amazingly LARGE!!! Production on the video is top notch, and in just a few weeks since it’s publication on YouTube, the video has received over 1,983,563 views (it is receiving an average of 10,500 views per day!!! This only counts the official version on Yuridia’s channel. There are many copies, with tens of thousands of additional views).

The video was filmed using a Red One camera on the Graphlite motion control crane. The production made very good use of the Pacific Motion stage, and this video is a good example of what can be done in the space.
