THE WATCHMAKER from Sean Coles on Vimeo.

“The Watchmaker” was shot for Sony to show at NAB 2014. It was a demonstration of their 4K camera and projector technologies. It was directed by Sean Coles and shot at 4K resolution on a Sony F65. The Gazelle motion control camera crane, and our large motion control turntable were used to film multiple passes of live action, as a master watchmaker (Jeff, The Pocket Watch Guy) worked on antique Hamilton railroad pocket watches. The turntable was outfitted with a 6′ circular top, and held the actor and table. The Gazelle filmed a straight downward crane shot as the turntable rotated precisely to allow for seamless transitions between passes. While most of the flying parts were created digitally, multiple special effects passes were filmed, using monofilament line and various rigs to suspend and puppeteer actual watch parts.
