Post Nike "Flight Plate" Commercial
on: August 14, 2014, 14:03

Paul and I recently shot a commercial for Nike. The commercial consisted of one VERY LONG (approximately 200'), straight tracking shot, where a single actor would be appearing in approximately 20 different roles (twinning), along with a few other actors and athletes. The commercial was shot on a green cyc, using 60' of track.

Because the shot called for a much longer track run than we were capable of, we needed the Technodolly to move at a continuous, steady speed over a long portion of the track. Then multiple passes could be combined for the appearance of a much longer track run. We set a maximum cartesian speed limit for the rig of about 1 meter per second, which gave us approximately 45-50 feet to work with at a steady speed. Additionally, we wanted to slow down the acceleration and deceleration a bit, so we reduced the track "force" setting to 70%.

Approximately 30 passes were filmed (with many takes per pass), over the course of a 16 1/2 hour shoot day, and the rig worked really well.
